Probably not, since pitchers will just keep getting better and better.
The best bet for the near future would be some progidy kid.

A lot of people said Ichiro, but he's getting kind of old.

Yes, he's a better bet for this record. If pitchers walk him more, then he gets fewer at-bats which probably increases the chances of him getting .400. He could also take the day off whenever the Cardinals face Sanatana or whatever.

I would have to say Ichiro. He puts the ball in play a lot more than any other players, doesn't hit too much HR's and always has a high BA each year.

Ichiro does have a high BA every season, but his average will cap off at around .350.

True. A batter like him just seems to fit the mold. Albert hits a lot of HR's so that could hurt his average a little bit more than Ichiro's.

probably ichiro because he's more of a contact hitter than a power hitter. contacts hitters have advantages in batting averages because:
a) they just try for base hits, not home runs b) they are intentionally walked less c) usually not free-swingers - they know when to take pitches

A lot of Japanese players were taught to hit like Ichiro. I mean you can see it.
So do you think there's a good chance that some young Japanese kid will hit .400?

Oh well.
Hitting .400 in a season is really hard. And Mauer's average dipped by like 6 or 7 points after 2 games against the Yanks.
