They were debating if sports needed intellect, and the intelligent is the person who is knowledgeable.
To the original question of the thread, no I don’t care for sports too much, because I don’t value the athletic. I value thought patterns more. I have never found a intellectual who can ever explain the act of playing sports or exercising. However, watching sports just seems pointless to me. Why go watch someone hit a ball when you can read about the great men of the 20th century?
I consider myself intellectual, and admire the big businessmen, but have to disagree that sports do not require intelligence. Yes, to some, it does not, but to those who are intelligent, the greater the chances of winning are. It all depends who plays. If paris Hilton plays a game, then, intelligence would not be involved and the game might not be as great. However, if Franklin D Roosevelt (lets pretend for a moment he was not crippled) played, then, that might be an attention stirring game, as intelligence would most definitely be involved.
Sorry for the strange parallels, those are the first names that came to mind that you would recognize.
There was something else I wish to counter. Just because an individual has made it in to college, it does not mean they are intellectual. College at the state level is a further attempt to collectivize and brainwash the masses.

Because it is interesting and you really can learn a lot from them no matter if they are mistakes or brilliances.
Prototype
Hahahaha, No idea, why they would want to. Someone decided at the beginning to make a case that it didn't involve being intelligent.
