Hello everyone! It's now time to start our NHL playoff predictions contest! Here's the listing of the current Round 1 matchups, and I'll list the rules later in this post.
Western Conference
Sharks (1) vs. Ducks (8)
Red Wings (2) vs. Blue Jackets (7)
Canucks (3) vs. Blues (6)
Blackhawks (4) vs. Flames (5)
Eastern Conference
Bruins (1) vs. Canadiens (8)
Capitals (2) vs. NY Rangers (7)
Devils (3) vs. Hurricanes (6)
Penguins (4) vs. Flyers (5)
Here's how the playoffs work: As you can see, the first round is basically 1 vs 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, and 4 vs. 5. The winner of each series will advance to the second round of the playoffs. In this second round playoff, the HIGHEST seed will play the LOWEST seed. Please be aware of this in your picks. For instance, let's say that in the East conference, the Bruins (seed 1), the Rangers (seed 7), the Devils (seed 3), and the Penguins (seed 4) all advance to the second round. This means that the Bruins will play the Rangers next because it is the highest-lowest seed matchup, and the Devils/Penguins will play each other in the same round.
This issue doesn't apply to the 3rd and 4th (final) rounds, because in the 3rd round, there are only 2 teams left in each conference (there are 2 conference so by this time there are 4 teams remaining) so they each play each other. And, of course, in the 4th and final round, there are only 2 teams left entirely, so they play each other for the Stanley Cup.
So here's how our contest works. Each participant will fill out this template that I have filled out for you in the bottom of this post. You are to fill it out with your picks for the winner of EACH series. This is similar to March Madness, where you pick the winners of each game BEFORE the playoffs (or in the March Madness case, the NCAA tournament). Once you fill out this template, send me a Personal Message, and post in this thread saying that you have sent me a PM. This is done to prevent cheating, because if we all posted our picks here, someone could just modify their posts as the playoffs go on. Also, this way, we know how many people are participating. After you have sent me a PM, and after I look over it and see that everything is correct, I will edit your post and add a line in a different color saying that your submission is successful.
Instructions: COPY THE ENTIRE TEXT IN THE CODE BOX and paste it when you send me a PM. Write down the team name (such as Bruins, Rangers, etc.) in the appropriate spots, then send me (DAMNIT) the Personal Message.
Here's how the points work:
You get 1 point for selecting the winner of each round 1 series correct, then 2 points for the round 2 winners, then 3 points for the round 3 winners, and 4 points for predicting correctly the winner of the Stanley Cup.
If, by any chance there is a tie in points, the winner of our contest will be the one who selected the team that wins the Stanley Cup (the finals). If both have selected the winner of the finals, then it goes to whoever selected most of the winners in round 3, then round 2.
If there's still a tie, we have 2 winners.
YOU MUST SUBMIT TO ME YOUR PICKS BEFORE THE FIRST PLAYOFF GAME, WHICH IS ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 7:00 PM.
Everyone's picks will be revealed after the playoff's completion.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
