ok, my friend had reconstructed a 360 that was possibly broken already and had it working without an issue. I eventually got him to sell it to me, this is a trustworthy friend not some random person off the street mind you, and for about a month-a month and a half i've been playing a small collection of games. Until now that is, i sat down to play oblivion and a little ways in the screen stopped, the audio went off with a nasty *click*, and i proceeded to restart my system to be greeted by none other than the RROD. Now! I don't believe that my system is eligible for a fix from microsoft due to the fact that i dont know how far my friend went to redo this system so i'm very wary to send it in. Unfortunately the only means i had to contact my friend has been deleted somehow (my amazing tendencies for ya) so i can't get a hold of him until school starts and even then there's no guarantee that i'll be able to have him fix it. My question is would anyone be willing to tell me how to go in and fix this? There are guides out there to "do it yourself!" but somehow i just don't want to bring myself to trust them with a random $30+. If anyone could help that would be great!

I get it now, the towels are to purposely overheat the console so as to re-melt the CPU and GPU connections to the motherboard.

If your friend had it before Microsoft figured out to fix the RRoD, I would say that 360 is really old. Send the 360 back to Microsoft and they'll replace it - free of charge.

My friend bought the console broken. He fixed it back up and did a bit of tweaking to get it to work right again and in order to do that he had completely taken the 360 apart just like i have it now. In opening the box the warranty for the microsoft fix/replacement is now null and void.

yeah, when I have an xbox break after the warrenty's been broken, you know what I do? I take it into the woods and smash it. I've smashed two so far. One I shot with paintballs

nah, neither of them were mine. I'm not stupid enough to try fixing an x-box. I've learned my lessons about messing with gaming systems. Oh, my poor, poor modded PS2 T.T
