Why do you guys listen to music? Is it because it can excite you? Is it because music helps to soothe? Is it because of some other factor? Please discuss.

I would play some games if I were bored (with music, I guess).

Music soothes me, entertains me, keeps me happy, talks to me, and creates a mood for me. I am usually always listening to it. It is just something that I have come to live with and it would be extremely difficult to live without.

Something to do for me.
Also fun to listen to and calms me down or gets me all pumped up.

I just enjoy it. I have an over active imagination and when I listen to music I let my mind wander and get so many ideas. Half the songs on my I-pod are linked to some story in my head or one that is on paper.

I listen to music for a few reasons. 1: It helps me calm down when I'm pissed off or depressed 2: It drowns out the noise around me 3: By now, I'm sure everyone is aware that I fancy myself to be some sort of critic. Music is one of those things I critique. 4: Makes me feel better, even if I'm in a good mood already 5: It get's me pumped up or motivated 6: The songs are catchy 7: The band is genuinely talented, and their music is enjoyable to listen to 8: EXERCISE! I spent about 3 hours straight jumping around at Big Day Out, more exercise than I typically get in a week 9: I acquired much of my musical tastes from my Dad, who luckily kept me away from rap and turned me on to metal and classic rock. Punk Rock is my own thing.

For me it's something of a drug at this point, i never leave without some form of music. It just does some really amazing things to me, the music i listen to is very specific at times but things like psytrance can really put you in some really deep thought when things move too fast and things like happy hardcore makes things much more happy than they really are...or it can do just the opposite. Music is my antidrug
