“You can speak without saying but you can’t say without speaking.” by Yoshi6852
Speaking is a part of who we are. It’s what separates us from the animals, it’s one of the many things that make us human. It doesn’t matter how you speak or what it is you speak with. We use our ability to speak in many ways. We persuade, we write, we defend, we sometimes hurt but other times we comfort, we use it just to make conversation, and the list goes on and on. Our voice is more than just something that makes us human, it’s also makes us different from other people. I speak different from anyone else and no one speaks exactly like anyone else. So then why don’t we all speak exactly the same? It’s because of who we are on the inside.
Our personalities greatly affect what we say and do. This is because we are all different. I might like chocolate, you might like mint. I might like the Mets, you might like the Yankees. If I’m a mean, nasty person (thank goodness I’m not), I will be more likely to be mean to others and others might be mean to me. But lets say I’m a very kind person. More likely than not, other people will be nicer to me. Same goes with the way we speak. If I speak rudely to someone, they will speak rudely to me. For example lets say someone tells you not to do something and your like “yeah whatever” the person might get angry and talk to you rudely. If I speak politely to others, then they will speak politely to me. Just imagine a world where every one talked the same and acted the same. I don’t know about you but I’m starting to miss those rude people. You shouldn’t rude but you should be different and if your not, your either trying too hard to fit in or you were born at the exact same time as someone else, and also when the planets were aligned. What sounds more likely. You don’t have to go out of the way to be different. All you have to do is be yourself.
How can you be different without even trying? Well think for a minute. Do you do anything that a lot of people don’t do? If you can’t think of anything, you probably just don’t realize that it is different. I’m doing it right now. I’m speaking my mind. How many times have you done that? Do you even know? That’s because of how often we do it. Think about every time you have argued with someone. You were speaking your mind. How about how many times you have complained? You’re still speaking your mind. What about when someone offered you food or a drink or anything? Guess what? When you said yes or when you said no, that was speaking your mind. It’s rare that your mouth ever opens up and makes that sound that we call your voice and it’s MEANINGFUL when you were not speaking your mind. And if your not speaking your mind, what was the point of saying anything. You may say “what if someone asked me to say something to someone else?” Well did you say it word for word? Probably not your still speaking your mind.
Speaking is more than just words. it’s actions. Think about when you were in school (or now if you’re still in it). Has a teacher ever started on a lecture that you fell asleep in, or felt like falling asleep during? Even though you are not talking, you were telling your teacher “I’m bored out of my mind.” Lets say your standing outside and you hear a loud BOOM. Naturally you will look around to see what happened. Well even if your voice didn’t come out you still were speaking the words “What was that?”
You can speak in many ways and with many things. You can speak with your voice, your hands, your actions, but there are many more ways. Too many to count, too many to name. How you speak it is not always up to you, but what you speak is. So remember next time you speak think about what it is your about to speak and how you’re going to speak it. If you remember only one thing from what I have talked about remember that how we speak is a two way street. How we speak is part of what makes us different but how we speak is directly effects who we are on the inside. And also remember you can speak without saying but you can’t do, say or sign without speaking.
