Hey, all. I was wondering ... if we can get a few more active members to join this site, what would you all think of having some contests on this site? I was thinking that we could have varying contests which result in prizes such as a custom title (goes underneath your display name when you post), having an image you made be posted somewhere on the site, and others. I have a few contest ideas already in my mind, such as a writing contest and an image-making contest.
What do you think? Will you likely participate in one of these contests if I initiate them?
(For any contest, I'll probably be the judge, and thus will not participate. Alternatively, another admin could be a judge.)

We don't want to have too many contests. My idea would be a graphic contest but not all of our member are interested in graphic.

I am aware that members have different interests. That's why I propose we have something like a "Contest of the Month" or a contest lasting for several weeks. With this format, we can have one contest be, say, a writing contest and another contest (the second one) be a graphics contest, and the third, we can get to that later.

Well, we don't want to have a contest right now, we'll see in future.

If we get about 5 more semi-active to active members, we should definitely consider doing something like this. I'm thinking of having the first contest have a long deadline to allow the most users possible to compete.

Hmm this isn't a bad idea... there are a lot more themes out there than just graphics and writing, I'm sure.

Yeah, a common contest idea is a "caption contest," where one person finds a hilarious picture online and posts it, while the other members post their own crazy captions to the picture. When the deadline has been reached, the judge can declare the winner.

I guess that could be a good idea for a contest. I'd have to come up with a "grading system" for this contest but since the playoffs are a little while away I guess it's OK to still be in a planning stage.

well we could either do it game by game or we could guess how much games each series and who wins. u would get pts 4 winners and games. the rounds closer 2 the championship the more pts u can get.
Ex:
Sharks win in 5 games. If they get it right then 2 pts. If they get just winner then 1pt.
then in nxt round it doubles or somethin like tht.
wht u guys think?

So how about this grading system for both the NHL and the NBA:
Round 1: Guess the amount of games that EACH series will have and guess the winner. Getting the amount of games right will award 2 points and guessing the winner gets 1 point.
Round 2: Same as Round #1, with 3 points for the amount of games and 2 points for the winner.
Everything keeps increasing by 1 until the championship series, in which guessing the right amount of games will result in 8 points and guessing the winner results in 5 points.
The only problem I can see with this grading system is that you can't really get the whole thing submitted before the playoffs begin because you have to know who will be playing in the 2nd round, the 3rd, etc.
I was also thinking of this system:
We wait until every playoff spot and seed is determined in the NHL and NBA (so we wait until all 16 teams are known). Then, we predict, simply, the WINNER of each series. Round 1 gives 1 point, and each round after that gives you 1 extra point for guessing the winner correctly so you could get 3 points for guessing the winners of round 3. In the 4th round (the championship), you get 5 points for guessing the winner. I like this system because it lets everyone submit their brackets before the playoffs begin to maximize the number of people participating.

Honestly, I'm not sure. We'll have to wait and see if there are future suggestions. Or I can just search online for a good video game-themed contest.
