Yeah, and I mentioned that in my video game debate (video game addiction = negative impact on children, and adults as well).

Game type is important as well as psyche and time played, but there's also one thing that I just thought of; a lot of the good games nowadays are built upon stress buildup. I haven't been able to play many of the new games out there but things like resident evil are built on big stress buildup from suspense, then an extreme amount of stress relief and intake during shootings but come the end of the fight the cycle repeats...i can see this wearing a person down to the effect that the person doesn't care about the violence as much. Then when faced with real life could act like they do in games, but thats obviously not an "always going to happen" statement.

Good points, Naoko. I doubt anyone would face something in real life like the would in Resident Evil. Some situations might be similar, but definitely not the exact same.
It could just be me, but I find stress buildup in a game like Civilization IV, where I'm about to declare war on someone in which we're equal in strength. It's even worse in multiplayer when your human opponents are much smarter. One of the guys who I was playing in a 12-player Civilization IV game got very little sleep one night. Why? He was just about to complete a world wonder, and was EXTREMELY WORRIED that I or someone else would nab it a turn before him. (In Civilization IV, only ONE person gets a world wonder, and the other players just get gold if they missed the wonder.)

I can tell my parents that games which are about history are educational and all of a sudden, they're OK with it.

There are some games that I have that have helped me in school ie blazing angels.

Same here, Civilization IV taught me a lot of world geography that I was too lazy to learn about before.

I think DDR is actually one of those rare games that are actually good for you, even schools use the game during gym. I used to be obsessed with that game though...i played random expert level songs so addiction-wise it probably isn't too helpful

They had a machine at an arcade in Busch Gardens, so I played for the first time in at least a year. It was not as fun as I remembered, but still a great game.

Oh man, Dance Dance Rev. must be fun to play! The closest thing I've come to that is the Mario dance game. Strangely enough, it was because my soccer coach decided he wanted to have a dancing tournament.

really? DDR is FAR from actual dancing. Except jumpstyle, which in my opinion is the stupidest attempt at claiming acting like an idiot is cool since april fools day.

Actually DDR is really really fun. Expecialy some songs are so fast that by the end imidiatly after doing it you pick another slower song it will feal really slow.

I usually drag out the timer between rounds(when I'm in the arcade, when I play at home I get as much time between them as I need)

Yeah, that's why I like playing at home. No time limits ... unless you've got school the next day or something.
